Blessing of the Boats

Bless: verb (used with object), blessed or blest, bless·ing.
To request God to bestow divine favor (Bless this house)
To protect or guard from evil (Bless your innocent little heart)
To consecrate or sanctify by a religious act; to pronounce holy

Nope! We don't bless anything but God! But we do believe that God blesses us... and that we as his children are expected to seek his blessing on everything we do. That's why we begin each summer on Lake Blackshear by the Blessing of the Boats... for the three reasons in the definition above. We seek God's favor on our leisure. We ask God's protection for those who enjoy the Lake. And we do this by gathering in worship to remind ourselves of the gifts of leisure, and to offer those gifts back to God.

We hope you joined the huge crowd this year on Memorial Day Sunday, May 25th at Nine O'clock on the Resort Dock as we asked God's blessing on our boats, and those who enjoy their pleasures this summer.

O God. You rested on the seventh day
and are still at work in our world;
In the course of this busy life,
give us times of refreshment and peace;
Grant that we may so use our leisure
to rebuild our bodies and renew our minds,
 That our spirits may be opened
to the goodness of your creation.
 Amen.
